Vin Diesel is said to be returning for Blood shot 2although the film's release in theaters this year was much less than ideal. Bloodshot premiered in mid-March 2020 and was one of the first major titles to fall victim to the national shutdown. With many cinemas starting to close their doors, Sony made the film digitally available on-demand less than two weeks after its premiere.
While the unfortunate timing of Bloodshot's premiere contributed to a loss of profits at the box office, plans for a sequel continue to move forward. Dan Mintz, CEO of Valiant Comics' parent company, DMG Entertainment, recently told CBR that they still view the film as a huge hit, suggesting that it's all about looking past the number of movie tickets sold.
"I think [Bloodshot] has been very successful in this regard, a lot of people have seen it and it did very well on rollout after it was released, but you can't use the same assessment process before COVID. [Are] Vin Diesel and all these people will still go on? Yes, because it went so well and the response to it was so good, the answer was only in a non-transparent environment, as opposed to a transparent environment like cash register numbers. "
Directed by David S. F. Wilson and written by Jeff Wadlow and Eric Heisserer, Bloodshot is based on the Valiant Comics character of the same name. This is followed by a Marine who was killed in action, only to be revived with superpowers by an organization that wants to use him as a weapon. Vin Diesel plays the lead role, and the film also stars Sam Heughan, Eiza Gonzalez, Toby Kebbell, Guy Pearce and Lamorne Morris.
With Mintz only mentioning Diesel, it's not clear whether Wilson will be back in the director's chair or what other actors from the original Bloodshot could be back to repeat their roles. With the vague suggestion that "all of these people" will be returning along with Diesel, it seems promising that most, if not all of the main characters from the first film will be back in some form. It also sounds like Bloodshot 2 is in the early stages of preproduction. Hence, it remains unclear when the film could start filming or when it could be released.
Sony and DMG Entertainment see promising results in Bloodshot's future as the film was set to usher in a new universe of films featuring characters from Valiant Comics. Along with a sequel to Bloodshot, there are early plans for a film based on the Harbinger comic series. This series follows a group of super-powered outcast teenagers known as the Harbingers, and the title is one of the best-selling comics published by Valiant. In 2019, Paramount Pictures acquired the rights to the film, making the possibility of a crossover between Harbinger and Bloodshot unclear.
Hopefully when Bloodshot 2 arrives it can enjoy a decent run at the box office. Right now, you can try the original Bloodshot on Blu-ray and video-on-demand services. This message comes to us from CBR.
