“Those Who Wish Me Dead” is Sheridan’s second directorial work after “Wind River”.
Entertainment Weekly has released an exclusive first look at Angelina Jolie in the director Taylor Sheridan‘s next gritty western drama, The ones who want me dead.
The film – based on Michael KorytaThe 2014 novel of the same name stars as Hannah, a trained smoke jumper trained to jump in Montana forest fires to calm the flames. Still struggling with the trauma of a recently failed mission, Hannah meets 12-year-old Connor (Finn Little), who is on the run from two assassins played by Nicholas Hoult and Aidan Gillen. The two are then embroiled in a survival escape that is sure to be yet another pulsing thriller from Sheridan.
Released by Warner Bros., images show a tense Jolie in full gear fighting forest fires, comforting a filthy and distraught little child on the forest floor. While Jolie is no stranger to big action films, those who want me dead are likely to focus less on the spectacle than on the complex character work and powerful themes found in Sheridan’s writing.
That first look also fits in with everything audiences want from a Sheridan movie. The Oscar-nominated author and director has made a name for himself as one of the most important exciting storytellers today. Of Hitman to Hell or high water to his directorial debut, Wind riverSheridan has rightly gained recognition for his ability to write intelligent, socially conscious thrillers that breathe new life into the western genre and propel it forward for the modern age. Those who wish me dead will have the same grain, intensity, and depth Sheridan is known for.
Those Who Wish Me Death are slated to debut in theaters and on HBO Max on May 14th. The first trailer is due to be released tomorrow.
