Think of it as an early Father’s Day present for Shaun: ABC has renewed The Good Doctor for Season 5, TVLine has learned.
In the previous season, The Good Doctor has an average of 4.23 million viewers and is just below a demo rating of 0.6 (in live + same day numbers) – a decrease of around 30 percent compared to the third season shows the in both measures third place (after Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy).
The medical drama is currently on Mondays at 9/10. Aired and played Freddie Highmore as Autistic Surgeon Shaun Murphy, who overcomes personal and professional hurdles while working at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. Season 4 has followed the medical wonder in a post-COVID world as he navigated his fourth year of residency as well as his romantic relationship with Lea (played by Paige Spara).
In the middle of season four, Lea announced that she was pregnant with her and Shaun’s first child. In the next episode with the title “Dr. Ted “and broadcast on May 10:” Shaun struggles with his role as Lea’s partner after complications with pregnancy and his instincts as a medical professional emerged. “
The cast is rounded off by Antonia Thomas (as Claire Browne), Hill Harper (as Marcus Andrews), Richard Schiff (as Aaron Glassman), Christina Chang (as Audrey Lim), Fiona Gubelmann (as Morgan Reznick) and Will Yun Lee (as Alex Park).
Season 4 also featured a recurring number of interns: Summer Brown (as Olivia Jackson), Noah Galvin (as Asher Cloud), Bria Samoné Henderson (as Jordan Allen), and Brian Marc (as Enrique Guerin). Only Galvin and Henderson remain as the current season hits the home straight.
ABC previously renewed its colleague Dancing With the Stars for a 30th season. The network also accepted the Bachelorette for two more cycles.
