Now this is a look: The Boys have revealed the first pic of Jensen Ackles as the Soldier Boy in season 3 of Amazon Prime’s gritty comic book series.
The Supernatural veterinarian portrays the very first superhero who became the first “superstar” after his fight in World War II and became a mainstay of American culture for decades. The appearance unites the actor with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, who acts as the showrunner for The Boys.
“Soldier Boy is the original badass,” said costume designer Laura Jean Shannon, who co-designed the suit with concept artist Greg Hopwood, in a statement. “Our goal was to highlight a bygone era of open masculinity and determination. With this pedigree we went headlong into the cheeks in a purely American quality based on the practicality of a soldier with a large serving of old-school cowboy splendor. We knew the actor had to have Steve McQueen looks and shops with a John Wayne attitude, luckily Jensen Ackles embodies all of that. ”(Take a closer look at Soldier Boy’s sign on Ackles’ Instagram.)
Kripke added, “When I cast Jensen as Soldier Boy, the first thing I said was, ‘I’m most excited for you because of the amazing process you’ll be going through with LJ, our Super Suit Designer. It took six months, but the experience exceeded Jensen’s expectations. LJ has created a work of art that takes its hat off of the comics to the WWII soldier boy while giving him an elegant new direction. And if you think the photos are cool, just wait until you see Jensen in action. It’s one of my very favorite suits. Also, you can now stop clogging my Twitter notifications with requests to see them. “

Following Ackles’ casting announcement last August, Kripke said in a statement: “As a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream – to get Jensen Ackles a job. I am happy to say that this dream has come true. Jensen is a great actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies and I consider him a brother.
“As Soldier Boy, the very first superhero, he’s going to bring so much humor, pathos and danger to the role,” added Kripke. “I can’t wait to be on set with him again and bring a bit of supernatural to the boys.”
During a season two post-mortem Q&A finale with TVLine, Kripke teased that “the big season is coming” with the arrival of Soldier Boy. Mythology that he runs through. The season is kind of about him. “
