Sylvester Stallone completes the Rocky IV Director’s Cut

Sylvester Stallone has finally finished editing his new director Rocky IV. Last fall, Stallone – the director, writer and star of the acclaimed sequel – announced that a Director’s Cut Edition of the film was in the works to mark its 35th anniversary. At the time, Sly had been annoyed that the Director’s Cut would be released in November to coincide with the theatrical release of the original cut.

While Sylvester Stallone Missed its scheduled release date for the Rocky IV director’s cut last November. The good news is that the new machining is in the can. Stallone has posted a new video of himself on Instagram that puts the finishing touches to the director’s cut. The headline of the video reads: “Last day after completing ROCKY 4 !!! “It’s never complete. I’ve said that before. You can go back and see a movie that you made 50 years ago and say, ‘I have to do this again.’ And every director feels the same, “explains Stallone in the clip. He also explains that most filmmakers never get the chance to finish the films the way they intended and that he feels pretty lucky to have been given the opportunity to come back and do just that with Rocky IV .

“It’s not about making a movie, it’s about making it new,” says Stallone. “Sorry, you’re running out of time, you’re running out of money. They’re basically kicking you out of the room. So you don’t get a chance, but in this case I finally have a chance, so I’m feeling great about it. “

The Rocky IV director’s cut will include new footage not seen in the original film, such as a new fight scene between Rocky Balboa (Stallone) and Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren). Another big difference is that Paulie’s pet robot will no longer appear in the film, as Stallone didn’t think the scene fits what he really had in mind for the sequel.

“The robot is going to the junkyard forever, not a robot anymore,” Stallone said earlier on Instagram, confirming that poor SICO had been eliminated. The decision sparked a response from International Robotics founder and SICO voice actor Robert Doornick, who claimed Stallone cut the robot scenes to save money on royalties paid to Doornick for using the robot in the theatrical release.

This may be the last time we’ll see new footage of Stallone as Rocky Balboa, even if the scenes are decades old. It was only recently revealed that Stallone will no longer return as an Italian stallion in Creed III after appearing in the first two films. Still, Stallone has also expressed his desire to make a new Rocky movie in which Balboa takes on a new protégé and has also tried to develop a prequel series that will follow young Rocky in the years leading up to the first film.

It is currently unclear when Rocky IV’s “Stallone Cut” will be released, but let’s hope that Sly will finish the edit sooner rather than later. This message comes from Sylvester Stallone on Instagram.
