SnyderVerse Trilogy Trailer Coming, Did HBO Max Just Make The Snyder Cut Offical DCEU Canon?

Though the flawless and fandom powered trip to Zack Snyder’s Justice League ended in success for both fans witnessing Zack Snyder’s well-constructed vision for DCEU and Warner Bros. and DC Films, whose decision to release the Snyder Cut resulted in record-breaking subscriptions to HBO Max. But when Zack left the audience with a stunning cliffhanger at the end of his Justice League and gave everyone a long glimpse of what he was up to for the franchise, fans want the studio to now become #RestoreTheSnyderverse.

Both Ann Sarnoff, CEO of Warner Bros., and Walter Hamada, head of DC Films, have viewed Zack Snyder’s Justice League as a dead end with no plans underway to continue the character arcs based on Snyder’s ideas. Even Zack Snyder has called his film one-off, specifically mentioning that the studio sees Joss Whedon’s theatrical version of the film (which mentions Snyder as director and Whedon as co-writer) as canonical of the franchise’s ongoing continuity. Even so, HBO Max released a compilation trailer for Zack Snyder’s DCEU films today. man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021). Is this trailer a cue for Warner Bros. finally realizing that DC is better in the hands of Zack Snyder? Or is HBO Max telling us that Zack Snyder’s vision is over for her with the Snyder Cut?

The trailer pays homage to Snyder’s journey

The HBO Max trailer appears to be a tribute to Zack Snyder’s vision that helped create the successful and visually stunning creation of the DCEU. The trailer features clips from the first two films in the trilogy, which also feature the voices of various actors who were part of the cast, including Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Michael Shanon, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner . The trailer omits footage from Zack Snyder’s Justice League, likely so as not to spoil the film, which was made available for streaming on HBO Max less than a month ago.

The trailer was actually edited to visualize the long road to the Snyder Cut that the fans went through along with Zack Snyder, constantly rebelling against the studio to convey the director’s vision through social media campaigns, podcasts, blog posts and even publish a plane to fly over the headquarters of Warner Bros. Burbank. The campaign got so strong that Zack Snyder joined the movement and made it more impactful through Vero and eventually got the stars to support Snyder along the way. The trailer emblematically combines fan engagement and devotion for the Snyder Cut movement with the journey of the DC characters and their development within Zack’s DCEU.

Zack Snyder’s DCEU films imagined DCEU characters with some depth in their personal problems, psychological conflicts, decisions and differences. This was something Zack teased from the beginning of the franchise in Man of Steel and gradually expanded that approach to all of his characters in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, especially in Zack’s fresh take on the character of a hardened and unemotional Bruce Wayne / zu see is. Batman. The trailer tries to delve into the short snippet as it advertises the three films that can be streamed on HBO Max.

But that’s not the only thing the trailer leaves us with. It leaves us there a little message that may imply two things, and unfortunately, it could be on the bad news.

The message

HBO Max landed a message in the trailer. Between the excerpts, the trailer shows a message that Zack Snyder’s vision towards DCEU is supposed to honor, which he visualized in the three films, but which somehow drives us towards the end of Snyder’s version.

The message says:

For example, although the first sentence that said justice is “coming” implied that the studio plans to continue Snyderverse and allow Zack to finish his Justice League sequels as the word “coming” suggests. What it actually implied there was merely the arrival of the trilogy on the streaming platform HBO Max. By adding the word “Completion” to Zack Snyder’s trilogy, HBO Max made it clear that Zack Snyder’s vision for them and Warner Bros. with the Snyder Cut is completed and the trailer is reportedly just a hiatus to market these three films as the Zack’s trilogy and uses Snyder’s name to appeal to audience demographics.

Since the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, fans have linked their preference for DCEU to Zack Snyder’s vision for DCEU and Warner Bros.’s approach to the franchise fueled by the negative reception of Batman versus Superman: Dawn of Justice , clearly discarded. But the success of Snyder Cut and its engaging storyline, which closed the circle on Batman versus Superman and connected the dots in a breathtaking way, made it clear to the audience that Snyder has so much more to offer DC fans. However, due to critics, Warner Bros. decided to keep Snyder banned for his misappropriated approach to the franchise. Now it seems that Warner Bros. cannot just go back and restore Snyderverse, as several DCEU releases are already being planned over the next two to three years, all of which share continuity with the Justice League theatrical version.

Linking Snyder’s name to a separate trilogy of DC films only works for HBO Max to get more viewers and get them to the platform. But it looks like it won’t work as fans are pretty angry with HBO Max’s stint.

Fans react to trilogy trailers

Twitter is crazy about HBO Max’s intention to call the three films the Zack Snyder’s trilogy. Fans tweeted their disgust at the gesture, reminding HBO Max that Zack’s vision is at least a pentalogy, while other solo outings like Wonder Woman share the continuity with these films. Here are some of those responses.

It’s not a trilogy, it’s a pentalogy and @hbomax doesn’t do anything that would result in a major cancellation of subs in no time. Thank you ♥ ️💪 # / 0Lx4RFgvme

Eh @hbomax, do you really want to do this?

Seriously? #RestoreTheSndyerVerse

The trailer is just filling the #RestoreTheSnyderVerse tweets along with support for a Batman solo movie starring Ben Affleck and previous fan petitions to get Joe Manganiello back for a Deathstroke TV series. But it doesn’t seem like the way to go for fans.

What about Snyderverse?

The Snyderverse seems to be a dream too good to be true, at least for the time being. The “pentalogy” as fans believe is a long way for Warner Bros. to even think about it at this point. Warner Bros. is seriously considering revising the DCEU with The Flash next year. This will follow the Flashpoint plot from the comics and give DCEU the ability to change time and reality within the universe and change the studio’s bad calls.

The studio is also waiting for The Suicide Squad to be released with Shazam! Fury of Gods, Black Adam and Aquaman 2 also in Release Slate. With the pool for DC Films and Warner Bros. nearly full, the Snyderverse recovery will be a long way off.

For a possible separate production of Snyder’s films on HBO Max, it is impractical to approve such high-budget projects solely for a streaming service as they do not generate high ROI, especially in the case of HBO Max, which is still in production is in the initiation phase. Additionally, HBO Max already has too much on the plate with every 2021 film premiere and hit theaters, as well as ongoing production of HBO Max originals, including DCEU’s Peacekeeper companion series.

On the other hand, DC Films recently canceled New Gods, citing Darkseid’s appearance in Snyder Cut as one of the reasons for canceling the film. With the announcement, DC Films leaves a hint of a possible revival for the film, saying that the project will remain in the studio on hold and may even see the light of day in the future. It’s too big a hypothesis to say that DC Films canceled New Gods to make way for Snyderverse and Ray Porter’s version of Darksied. However, we can hope that Snyder’s plans will continue to be interrupted and that there is a chance that these films will become a reality in the future. After all, it took Snyder Cut almost four years to get approved.

Snyderverse is the name fans came up with to honor Snyder’s planned journey of the DC superheroes into a live-action universe that he considers to be some mythological, powerful beings who are at odds while battling personal demons. And this is exactly how Zack Snyder’s Justice League portrayed these characters, made them more understandable for people, made their problems more allegorical for real socio-political problems and thus established a stronger connection with the audience.

Bringing those storyboards to life on screen will be an amazing experience, but for now, HBO is hinting to Max that Snyder’s films were filmed on DCEU with Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

There’s absolutely no denying that WB Snyder sanctioned Cut to increase subscriptions to HBO Max, which in turn helped the platform gain massive fan support and popularity. In the end, filmmaking is a business, and the appropriate decisions in films are made while maintaining the commercial aspect as well. So the completion of Snyderverse will also face this jolt if it is ever considered in the studio.
