Massive Sky Recap: Cassie Zeroes is available in, Ronald's mom kills us

I believe in some universal constants. Gravity keeps us attached to the earth. Mulder and Scully fell in love with season 2. And Kylie Bunbury, whether she's wearing a baseball uniform or a jellyfish dress, is a lot of fun.

So it's not surprising that Bunbury's Big Sky character, private detective Cassie Dewell, doesn't get into the bad guys until the second installment of ABC's new thriller. Most of me think, “Look at Cassie doing her thing. These tracks. "But some of me think," A) This is very dangerous, so please get away from the violent misogynist Cassie and B) This show burns through the action pretty quickly, doesn't it? "

Even if Legarski is already number 1 on Cassie's list of suspects, we are certainly only at the tip of the terrible iceberg of human trafficking. This is a troubling thought – almost as troubling as Ronald's relationship with his mother, which hit a tricky new low this week.

Read on for the highlights of Nowhere to Run.

NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS | The morning after the girls disappeared, Cassie and Jenny haven't heard from Cody. The last time he checked in, he told Cassie that he and Officer Rick would go to the cult church to check things out. But now Legarski says that Cody walked alone, which poses Cassie's problems. Jenny worries about something else entirely: Cody is an alcoholic, they know he's been to a bar at some point, and maybe he's drowning his worries about his breakup with Cassie? Cassie admits that Cody wasn't happy when she told him they couldn't see each other anymore, but when Jenny squeezed, "Was he in love with you?", Cassie replies that she doesn't know. Jenny definitely did not expect this answer as her eyes fill with tears when she heard the loud words.

Meanwhile, Ronald buries Cody's truck and Danielle and Grace's car in a huge pit, then scolds Rick about the poor judgment he used to grab the teenagers. “The idea is we take girls who are not missing,” says the older man, saying that “dirty girls” are their trading stock. He adds that he killed Cody because the private eye had already mentioned the possibility that the kidnapper was a truck driver, and he couldn't let the former attorney get this close to the truth.

Ronald goes home, where his mother repeatedly notes that his pissed off demeanor is likely because he's "pent up". And just when I think she's going to have to use that sentence in a curious, old-fashioned way, she tells him, “Go back to your room and masturbate while I have lunch. And come back with a better attitude. “Fortunately, we don't know if he's going to take her advice.

A CREEPY VIBE | Cassie goes to meet Rick at The All In (aka the closed restaurant Cody met him at the premiere), and he's super off-putting from the start. He can't stop talking about how beautiful Cassie and Black are, two rarities in this forest. She's appropriately insane and it can be said that she won't buy his story, that he didn't accompany Cody to the Church of Fame and Transcendence because Cody was a "renegade" who likely jeopardized Legarski's job / retirement. He's also shy when she wonders why he didn't contact Cody later, but eventually agrees to phone a judge and try to get a warrant to search the church.

Just as Cassie thinks she is free from the creeper, he follows her to her car and gets in. They talk about how he never used his gun (although we know that's not true) and she makes it clear that she trained at the FBI Academy. He points out that she didn't graduate and then comments on her about 200 more times. Cassie asks directly if he's trying to intimidate her and he does the aw-shucks-I'm-just-a-simple-Mayberry-Rube thing until she leaves.

Meanwhile, the waitress in the diner tells Jenny from episode one that Jerrie (whom Ronald met as "Michelle") is missing after working at a truck stop outside of Helena the night before, and she is concerned.

THE WORST PLANS | On Rick's orders, Ronald tells Jerrie that she will be cleaned up and go to a "better place". That is of course not the least bit comforting. He lets her undress and shower in front of him, and although he averts his eyes, Jerrie asks him to turn around and see what's going on. When Ronald looks, she takes off her wig and shows him the whole month; Next we see him throw her back into the cell with Dani and Grace. At the beginning of the lesson, Dani and Grace had learned that Jerrie was transgender. When she is brought back the girls work quickly to comfort her and make sure she is okay.

Knowing they need a strategy not to go crazy, Grace works off Jerrie's feeling that her kidnapper is pretty lonely and suggests that they make Ronald think they like him. That way, he'll drop his guard and you can try to overpower him. Danielle lets everyone know out loud that she thinks it's a terrible idea, especially since Grace says a sister's bombshell has to be the one to lead it.

Grace also has a plan to keep her from losing hope: "I thought we were going to start a girls band." She is serious. Jerrie is a singer we know from the premiere and the sisters have experience in their church choir. At various points in the episode, the trio breaks out in three-part harmony in order to keep paralyzing fear in check. (When Jerrie reports that Ronald's goal is to sell her into sexual slavery, that terror comes back with a vengeance.)

EX MARKS THE SPOT | Rick appears to be more amused than angry that the "solder lizard" Ronald picked up is not biologically feminine. He thinks Jerrie is nothing more than a "curveball" that they have to deal with in their plan to sell the girls to Canada. There's a lot more nonsense he makes in the episode about how he and Ronald are "noble soldiers" and how "this nation is in the mess. We clean up the shit." But what you need to know in the end is that Rick's ex-wife calls him: Cassie asked questions and "She's not a fan." (Side note: What could "Please tell me you haven't been hanging around the malls again" mean?)

Back in Cody and Cassie's office, Jenny tells Jenny that she believes Jerrie's disappearance is linked to Danielle and Grace's. And Cassie says she has a similar feeling to when her husband, a military officer, was killed in action.

Elsewhere, Ronald's mother is sleeping in her bed when Ronald enters her room. "I couldn't sleep," he complains. So she goes over, he crawls under the covers and they cuddle.

Now it's your turn. What do you think of the episode? Sound off in the comments!
