High Hopes for Nebraska’s 2026 Football Season with Anthony Colandrea at the Helm

As the Nebraska Cornhuskers prepare for the upcoming 2026 college football season, new quarterback Anthony Colandrea has expressed strong confidence and high expectations for the team’s performance. The transfer from UNLV is eager to make a significant impact and lead the Huskers to a successful campaign.

Background and Career Highlights

Anthony Colandrea, originally from St. Petersburg, Florida, had an impressive junior year at UNLV, where he threw for 3,459 yards and achieved 23 touchdowns with only nine interceptions, maintaining a 65.9% completion rate. His outstanding performance earned him the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year award.

Before transferring to Nebraska, Colandrea played two seasons at Virginia, participating in 19 games and accumulating a total of 4,083 passing yards, with 26 passing touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

Goals and Expectations for the Season

“Expectations at Nebraska are to win. Like, you’re not here to just not win a national championship. I’m not coming here to just win eight or nine games. I want to win a national championship; I want to go to the playoffs. I have high expectations, and we have high expectations as a team,”

Colandrea has set ambitious goals, aiming to compete in big games and bring success to the Huskers. His mindset reflects a desire to elevate the program and achieve excellence on the national stage.

Joining a Competitive Quarterback Room

Colandrea arrived at Nebraska following the transfer of Dylan Raiola to Oregon, creating a competitive environment among the Huskers’ quarterback room. He joins sophomore T.J. Lateef, who started in the bowl game, and former Virginia quarterback Daniel Kaelin, among others, vying for the starting position.

Excitement for Nebraska Fans and Season Opener

The new signal-caller also expressed admiration for Nebraska’s passionate fan base, describing their energy as “the craziest” he has encountered. His first impression was attending a sold-out wrestling match, where the atmosphere left a lasting impression.

“They bring the juice. I’m excited to play for them,” Colandrea said.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 Season

Nebraska is set to kick off the 2026 campaign on Saturday, September 5, with a home game against Ohio University at Memorial Stadium. Details regarding kickoff time and broadcast information are still to be announced.

As the Huskers gear up for the season, all eyes will be on Colandrea to see if he can fulfill his high expectations and lead Nebraska to a memorable year in college football.
